**** The Prodigy -- Music for the Jilted Generation

There's no rule, written or otherwise, that says that dance music has to be boring. It just seems to be the case, over and over, that "bands" doing techno or dance music make tedious, repetitious music. Maybe that's the expected format, maybe it's the lack of imagination on the part of the artists, or something else. But here's an example of a great dance album that you can actually sit down and listen to. This 1995 release is considered to be a landmark, which is all the more appalling in that it hasn't seemed to influence too many other bands to put together creative techno. The song "3 Kilos" deserves special mention, featuring Phil Bent playing an excellent flute solo, although most of the tracks on here stand out as amazing deviations from what I've been taught to expect from techno music.
