*** H -- Ice Cream Genius

I've got a bunch of Marillion related cds that I haven't dealt with yet, so I'll start with this, Steve Hogarth's solo release from last spring. Fans of Steve as a vocalist will no doubt appreciate this more than I. I've always been a big fan of Marillion more for the instrumentation than the vocals, so an album of Hogy's singing accompanied by less distinguished music isn't really up my alley. Three songs, "You Dinosaur Thing", "Cage" and "Nothing to Declare" stand out as above the par. Interestingly, they're three of the more "rocking" tracks on the cd and the rest is mostly Adult Accoustic. Steve is supplemented in part by Richard Barbieri (of Porcupine Tree) and Clem Burke, the old drummer for Blondie.
