Dumb and Dumber actually belongs to Daniels

Dumb and Dumber

After I saw The Mask, I thought Jim Carrey couldn't make another movie better than that in the near future. Turns out I was right. However, Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, is a surprisingly funny, yet vulgar, comedy. The strange thing is that Jim Carrey, although he is very funny in this, is not the funniest one in this film. Jeff Daniels is. Jeff Daniels triumphs in this movie with a hysterical scene showing the many stages of diarrhea. I could not stop laughing.

The movie opens with two lonely guys working for a pet shop and a limo service. Jeff Daniels drives a van, that looks like a dog, for the pet shop, while Carrey drives for the limo service. The two decide to move to Aspen, Colorado after a beautiful woman leaves her briefcase in the airport. It turns out that the suitcase is full of money for a ransom demand for her kidnapped husband.

The trip on their way to Aspen is the funniest thing in this movie, next to the diarrhea part. All their adventures, or should I say, misadventures, are hilarious. One of the funniest parts is where a policeman pulls them over for speeding. The cop thinks he sees beer bottle full of beer. But that's not what is in those bottles. Just before he pulled them over, Carrey took a wiz, a very long one, into the bottles. The whole sequence is very funny but needs to be seen in order to be appreciated.

The rest if the movie kind of goes downhill from here. The plot loses itself in the actors, the actors seem to lose themselves in the story, and the whole movie seems to lost its direction. The only part that is very funny is the diarrhea part. (Did I mention the diarrhea part?) The acting seems to have been lost somewhere during the trip. I guess the director got tired of trying to teach Carrey how to act.

This movie is rated PG-13 and it's almost a little light. The language is pretty harsh, especially some of the potty jokes that are told. There is some implimented sex and fake violence. However, if you get involved in the film and turn off your brain, you should enjoy the wild comedic pair of Carrey and Daniels.

*** out of ****
